Will i need the same sub woofers of a new amp?

ok a buddy of mine haves a ported box with one memphis 12 and one JVC 12. It sounds awesome, the subs are sounding like fifteens. and me, I have one Kicker12 Car Audio COMP Performance 12, with a pioneer TS-W301R Car Audio 12. At first i had them two subs running of a Legacy amp 1500 watt but it didn't sound rite. them i brought sum bull **** a (900 watt)SSL Curise amp.and that didnt help the subs sound rite either. am i wrong for having two differnt subs. or get a better amp.
